14. March 2024Flying in the Jump Seat
7. July 2024If there is a Euro Space Center (former ESA Training Center) nearby, then you should go there.
During my time serving as a soldier in Belgium (1993-1998), I had already visited it once - back then, the astronauts trained there operating the space shuttle crane to unload payload.
Now this Space Center offers information and insight into the everyday life of an astronaut:
You can do tests that astronauts also have to do: Balance, reaction, teamwork, etc.
And you can also experience gravity simulations of the moon and Mars with VR glasses or be glued to the wall in a centrifuge.
For Mars exploration, there is a planetarium and a training level where you can control Mars rovers remotely. And there is also a lot to see and read about space exploration.
I went there for a weekend (2 days) with my godchild. The Space Center offers this with overnight accommodation, full board and additional activities: programming robots, 3-axis chair, working in zero gravity as a team.
Conclusion: it was a lot of fun and a great weekend.
